Introducing Author Services Australia Self-Publishing Services

Helping Australian, New Zealand, and international authors self-publish their books with affordable self-publishing services!

Welcome to Author Services Australia, your one-stop shop for premium, affordable self-publishing services in Australia. For over five years, we have provided high-quality, affordable, and accessible self-publishing services, including editing, cover design, print and ebook formatting, and ghostwriting, to Australian authors.

As an Australian author, I understand how hard it can be to take the first step from writing a book to getting it published.

That’s why my wife and I started our self-publishing companies, Indie Publishing Group and now Author Services Australia.

We wanted to give Australian and New Zealand self-published authors an affordable way to present their books professionally. Together, we have well over a decade of combined experience helping authors self-publish their books on IngramSpark, Smashwords, Amazon KDP, Kobo, and more. If you’re curious about self-publishing platforms, check out my article on The Best Self-Publishing Platforms to Self-Publish Your Books!

Just because you’re a self-published author, it doesn’t mean that you can’t put out a manuscript that’s equal to, if not better than, any mainstream published author. We wanted to help Australian authors and authors worldwide turn their dreams into reality.

There are three main choices that you have to consider when it comes to where and how you plan to publish your book:

      1. Self-Publishing.
      2. Hybrid/Vanity Press.
      3. Traditional Publishing.

Each has its advantages and disadvantages, and it’s important to consider what’s going to suit you best carefully. Here’s an informative article on The Pros and Cons of Self-Publishing in Australia.

Let’s Look at the Differences Between the Three Options and what the Pros and Cons Are!

One. Traditionally Published

Publishing your book traditionally with a mainstream publisher can be frustrating, as there are limited slots available. It’s going to take some hard work, a lot of luck, and the ability to take criticism and rejection on the chin. However, if it pays off, it could set you up for life and won’t cost you anything to get your manuscript published. It’s important to note that even some of the world’s best authors have had their books rejected by traditional publishing houses, and only a small percentage of authors ever succeed through this route.

Two. Hybrid/Vanity Press

This is probably one of the least attractive options for many authors, and you need to be aware of what you’re getting yourself into. However, to the inexperienced, it can look and feel like a dream come true. You’ll have to pay for your formatting, cover design, publishing, social media marketing, editing, and much more. They’ll then release your book as a ‘published book,’ which you may have to promote yourself. They’ll also take a percentage of your royalties along the way and retain the rights to your book for a set period. Some are better than others, and it’s important to check your contract, including the fine print, before you agree to anything.

Three. Self-Published

For many authors, self-publishing their books is the only way to publish. They may have tried either option above or are seeking greater creative control over their book. You’re responsible for all the costs, but you also have a lot of creative control over how much you spend and what your finished product is going to be. The upside? You control the rights to your book and collect all the royalties. You’ll always control your content and can promote it as much or as little as you like. Also, there’s no reason a self-published book can’t lead to a deal with a traditional publisher.
