Author Services Australia Premium Book Cover Designers
Author Services Australia Book Cover Design!
At Author Services Australia, we understand the importance of a professional book cover design and know that a premium book cover design will highlight your book to potential customers and help it to stand out on bookshelves, Amazon, Ingram Spark, or any of the other online book retailers.
They say that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover. However, when you’re shopping for a new book to buy, it’s often the cover that determines whether or not a potential buyer will click that ‘buy it now’ button or take it a step further to read the description.
Regardless of whether you’re looking for an ebook cover design, paperback cover design, or hardcover book design, your cover matters. It’s easily one of the most important parts of your book and well worth investing in.
There’s nothing worse than spending months of your time writing a book, thousands of dollars on editing and formatting, only to have the whole thing let down by an average cover. You need your book cover to shine and grab the attention of any potential reader or buyer.
Our experienced and professional book cover team is based in Australia. They have almost a decade of experience designing professional book covers that not only look amazing but help Australian authors to sell more books!

What we need to know to design your book cover!
Designing a book cover doesn’t just happen without important input from the author.
In the following article, we’re going to check out some of the things your cover designer needs to know to design your book cover. So, if you’re looking for a professional book cover and want to work with an Australian book cover designer, then you have come to the right place!
However, those beautiful book cover designs don’t just happen by themselves. So let’s check out some of the most important components of a premium book cover. Preparing what your cover designer will need ahead of time will make the whole cover design process move ahead much faster and smoother.
To Design Your Book Cover, your Designer will Need the following:
Front Cover Elements
For your professional book cover design to be impactful and relevant, you’ll be asked to fill out a questionnaire by your cover designer that gives them any relevant information they need. Some of the common things that you’ll be asked at the start of your cover design package may include:
- The final book title and sub-title.
- A description of the target audience you are trying to reach.
- Names of similar books which may target the same audience.
- Some examples of other book cover that you love!
- The dimensions of your cover (trim size).
Some other things that your cover designer would appreciate include a brief synopsis of your book so they can better understand the themes. If you already have an image, photo, or illustration that you want to be included on the cover, then you need to supply that in the highest resolution possible. For printing purposes, your cover needs to be 300dpi quality at its final size. If the images are too small or poor quality, they won’t print well.
The Back Cover Elements
The front cover is designed and finalized before any work is done on the back cover. For the most part, back covers are a simple continuation of the front cover and aren’t meant to be as impactful as the front cover. Some of the elements that you may want to be included on a back cover include:
- Title and sub-title (sometimes, but not often).
- The book description or summary.
- Photos and graphics (author photo and bio).
- Book endorsements.
- Credits for editors, illustrators, writers, cover designers, etc.
- Publishers or company logos.
- Website, social media, or contact information.
Barcode or ISBN
If you are working with a self-publishing company such as Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) or IngramSpark Publishing, they will automatically populate and place the barcode on the cover for you. Your book designer will just leave a place for it. If you are planning on printing and selling your books, you may need to source a barcode image with your ISBN. In Australia, this is typically done through Thorpe-Bowker Australia. If you are printing and publishing yourself, you may also want to consider adding a price to this area, but it isn’t mandatory.
The Spine of Your Book
The standard information on the spine of a book is the title and author name. Some authors also add a small logo or publishing logo. However, it’s important to remember that the spine of your book is determined by how many pages your book contains. Smaller books with lower page numbers may not have any room for text on the spine. Your final page count will be determined after your book has been formatted and won’t be the same as before it has been formatted.
