Welcome to Author Services Australia Katy Hart, and welcome to our author interviews! If you could start by introducing yourself to everyone, let them know where you’re from and some of your interests and hobbies.
I’m a British author who lives in middle England. I write spicy, contemporary romance set in the U.K. When I’m not busy at my day-job or writing, I enjoy getting out in nature and I find yoga helps me relax and re-set.
What inspired you to start writing?
I’ve always had a love of reading and loved to make up stories as a child. Writing has always been part of my life, and writing a book has always been a dream of mine.
What is your preferred genre to write in?
Contemporary romance, however, I read all genres and love a good crime or thriller.
What is your writing process?
I like to try and write something every day, even if it’s just a paragraph, because I find if I get out of a writing routine, it’s hard to get back into it. I prefer to write in silence, usually at night. But if a deadline is approaching, any hour of the day or night.
What is one thing you wish you knew now that you didn’t know when you started writing?
The hard part begins after you’ve typed ‘The End.’
What was the hardest part of self-publishing?
For me, marketing is undoubtedly the most challenging part of being a self-published author. It’s a relentless task, for which I often feel suitably unqualified.
If you use a pen name, why and how did you come up with it?
I use a pen name as I prefer to keep my author life separate from my real life. I was very nearly called Katy when I was born, but my parents decided on my real name in the end. I chose Hart because I write romance, and I’m not very good at coming up with names! 😂
Which book is your favorite and why?
I can’t choose a favourite book – that’s impossible! 😂
Who are some of your favorite authors?
I can’t choose one favourite author either – they’re all super talented!
What are you working on right now?
The Arrangement, my current WiP is a standalone and will be the first book of my next series due for release Spring 2025. It’s a billionaire, forced proximity, small town romance read with spice, as always.
How do you handle a bad review?
No author likes to get bad reviews. I try to remind myself that not everyone is going to like my writing, and sometimes, a bit of constructive criticism can be helpful.
What’s next for you as an author?
My next series. My next WiP which I’ve made a start on will the second book in my new series. The series will consist of standalones with one character featuring in all of them, who will then get his own book eventually. This series will have more of a small-town romance vibe to it. I might also squeeze a standalone in The London Billionaire Series too.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years, time, I would love to be making enough income off my writing so I can quit my day-job and write full-time. That’s my ultimate long-term author dream.
If you could choose one superpower, what would it be and why?
Invisibility – imagine the shenanigans you could get up to with that!
Where is your ultimate holiday destination?
A secluded cottage in the Tuscan countryside where I could write all day.
What are some of the items on your bucket list?
Scuba diving, travelling to the Far East, learn sign language, go skiing.
