Welcome to Author Services Australia, Simone Kamfonas, and welcome to our author interviews! If you could start by introducing yourself to everyone, let them know where you’re from and some of your interests and hobbies.
Hello, I live in Gippsland, Victoria. I grew up in the city and moved out to regional Victoria for the quiet. I live here with my husband and three children. I am a secondary humanities teacher. I love reading and travelling around Victoria to visit new places. I have a love of all pets/animals, and I would have hundreds if possible.
What inspired you to start writing?
I always loved writing while growing up, but I did not start until after I love my father, grandfather and grandmother in a couple of years. Writing became my way of dealing with the grief and loss.
What is your preferred genre to write in?
Fantasy, Romance. I love writing about random places and times.
What is your writing process?
I have an idea and start. I will label out what each chapter will include but I don’t know specifically until I reach that chapter.
What is one thing you wish you knew now that you didn’t know when you started writing?
You don’t need to rush, art takes time.
What was the hardest part of self-publishing?
I am publishing through Shawline which is a hybrid publisher. I am in charge of all the marketing for the book and they work on the editing.
Which book is your favorite and why?
The Bronze Horseman – I love the way she writes. It pulls you into the story. You feel like you are living in the shoes of the character.
Who are some of your favorite authors?
Paullina Simmons, Philippa Greggory, and Belinda Alexandra.
What are you working on right now?
I am working on a different kind of novel which involves an agent working undercover.
How do you handle a bad review?
I have yet to receive one but if I did, I would respect their opinion. People would not like every book and that is alright.
What’s next for you as an author?
I don’t know, I am seeing where life takes me.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
Hopefully my book is successful, and I am able to publish the other two books.
If you could choose one superpower, what would it be and why?
That is hard because each come with benefits and cons. I would love to say time travel but if you believe all the stories, it has a ripple effect if anything changes.
Where is your ultimate holiday destination?
Europe, I would love to be able to see all the old architecture and history.
What are some of the items on your bucket list?
I have never thought about it, I live every day as I can.
