Let’s dive into the latest social media platform, Threads!
Not every day, you get the opportunity to be on the ground floor of a new social media application such as Threads.
I know what you’re thinking. Another social media app, just what I don’t need in my life. However, is Threads a social media platform that you can skip? If you’re planning on self-publishing, then it’s important not to immediately rule out any avenues of promotion. Let’s take a look at Threads and see what this social media application offers authors.
What Is Threads?
What’s Threads? Basically, it’s Instagram’s and Facebook’s answer to Twitter.
Let’s be upfront here. It’s the same thing as Twitter, except it’s owned by a different billionaire.
If you’ve ever used Twitter, you’re already well on your way to understanding how this social media platform works. And to be fair, they made it really easy for Instagram users to transition into the new platform.
When you sign up or download, you can instantly import your profile information, links, and profile picture from your Instagram account. You can even instantly follow the same accounts on Threads as you follow on Instagram. If they haven’t made an account yet, when they do, it’ll auto-follow them for you.
Although the application isn’t 100% optimized for SEO yet, including advertising and hashtags, it’s still early days.
Do Authors Need to be on Threads?
It’s a little too early to say how much influence Threads will have, but judging by the first 24 hours, it’s seeing some great early growth. According to NBC News, and Mark Zuckerburg, Threads already has over 30 million users in only 24 hours.
If you’re in the process of creating an Author Marketing Plan for an upcoming release, I think you seriously need to consider adding this social media platform, especially if you’re already on Instagram.
Through my past use of Twitter, this platform is more about chatting and connecting—less about images and videos. Think gifs and memes, not reels and TikToks.
If you’re looking for somewhere to post your thoughts and ramblings or just let your author hair down a little, this could be the place for you.
So, Should Authors be Rushing to the Latest Social Media Platform? – Conclusion
If you have an Instagram account, I say connect your Threads, but I wouldn’t start deleting your other social media accounts just yet. It’s a little early to say whether this app will be the next big thing or not, but it’s still exciting all the same!
