Welcome to Author Services Australia, Rosie La Rosa, and welcome to our author interviews! If you could start by introducing yourself to everyone, let them know where you’re from and some of your interests and hobbies.
I loved growing up with an Italian heritage. Weekends were spent alternating between my auntie’s houses, surrounded by laughter and lots of food.
The cousins would all pile into a small lounge room, limbs spilling out into other rooms, and we would indulge in a movie marathon. Steve Martin and John Candy movies would be watched on repeat. I believe my humour stems from my siblings, cousins, Steve Martin and John Candy.
I have a passion for animal welfare and believe that all animals deserve to be loved and cared for.
I also believe a good cup of coffee can lift your day! A hard worker and loyal friend, values instilled in me by my family.
What inspired you to start writing?
I inherited the good storytelling gene from my mother. She can tell a story and include every minute detail.
I was always drawn to the written word, and with time on my hands, thanks to lengthy lockdowns, I started to write. At first, just documenting thoughts and ideas, it wasn’t long before I had completed a manuscript with relatable characters.
I am now bitten by the writing bug and look forward to finishing my second book.
What is your writing process?
Not sure that it is a process, but I hear the chapter unfolding in my head, and I take it to my laptop. Making the most of the free-flowing moments – capturing all the words until they run dry. I take a break at this point and return when the ideas are flowing again.
What was the hardest part of self-publishing?
The hardest part was navigating the new world of Self -publishing.
What are you working on right now?
I am currently working on documenting my father’s migration to Australia in the 1950s and all the discrimination and hardships he faced during this time. He had a hard life, and I hope that I do his story justice.
What’s next for you as an author?
Finishing my second book
Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years, I hope to have at least three books published and to be working on my next book. I see myself being a full-time writer and leaving my day job.
If you could choose one superpower, what would it be and why?
Being invisible! The power to hear what people say when they think you can’t hear them.
