How To Add Your Book To Multiple Browse Paths On Amazon

Did you know that you have more options than the ones given to you during your book set up on the Kindle dashboard?

When you set up your book on the KDP dashboard, you’ll have the opportunity to choose some categories for your book. Now, this is great for some categories, but what you’ll probably immediately notice is that you don’t have all the same options that you see on Amazon itself.

That’s the great thing about selecting your own browse paths.

Now, it sounds complicated, but once you try it once, you’ll realize that it’s really quite simple.

In the following article, we’ll look at what browse paths are and how you can pick the best browse paths for your book! For this article, I’ll use one of my books, The Day My Fart Followed Me To Hockey.

What Are Amazon Browse Paths?

Your browse path on Amazon is the path that people will take to find your book if they’re looking for specific categories rather than a specific book. In this section, we’ll show you how to find your browse paths. I added a video at the bottom of the article to show you the paths.

  1. Head to Amazon, and at the top of the page, near the search bar, select books. Don’t put anything in the search bar and then hit search. This is the first part of your browse path. Books.
  2. The next step is to scroll down the page, and on the left-hand side, you’ll see a section called Departments. Choose the most appropriate category for your book. In this case, we’ll use Children’s Books. This is the second part of your browse path. Books > Children’s Books.
  3. Okay, now we have about thirty options. For our example book, we’re going to choose Sports & Outdoors. This is the third part of your browse path. Books > Children’s Books > Sports & Outdoors.
  4. Now, we can get a little more specific in our choice. For this book, we’ll choose Hockey. That’s the fourth part of our browse path. Books > Children’s Books > Sports & Outdoors > Hockey.
  5. It’s that simple! Our complete browse path for this book and this category is Books > Children’s Books > Sports & Outdoors > Hockey.

This is our complete browse path for the category of hockey.

  • Books > Children’s Books > Sports & Outdoors > Hockey.

However, we can also mix it up and branch off a bit to drop our book into some other categories.

  • Books > Children’s Books > Sports & Outdoors > Hockey
  • Books > Children’s Books > Sports & Outdoors > Winter Sports.
  • Books > Children’s Books > Humor > General.
  • Books > Children’s Books > Growing Up & Facts of Life > Friendship, Social Skills & School Life > Self-Esteem & Self-Respect.

Did You Know That You Can Have More Than Three Browse Paths?

Now, when you go to your book’s listing on Amazon and scroll down, you’ll see your product details. There are usually three browse paths listed there, and your book’s rank is in each of them. A lot of new authors believe that you can only have three browse paths, but in fact, you can have at least ten browse paths per book on Amazon.com, Amazon.Ca, and Amazon.UK marketplaces.

Amazon will only display the top three under your product details, but you can still list them.

So, how do you get Amazon to add them? First, you head to your KDP dashboard and hit the Help Button, and then you hit Contact Us. Next, hit Amazon Store & Product Details, then update Amazon Categories.

Now, it’s just a matter of giving them the requested information, format, Amazon Store, ASIN or ISBN, and the browse paths just like we listed above. After that, you’ll get an email back saying that your changes will take a few days to be modified on the platforms, and that’s it!
